From Malciaussia in the Val di Viù a mule track climbs the wild Vallone d'Arnas past waterfalls and the Gias Nuovo pastures to the Lago della Rossa, a huge slate-grey sheet ringed by scree and old glaciers at almost 2,750 m. It is one of the emptiest corners of the Graian Alps.
