Lago del Turano, Rieti
Lazio
The Lago del Turano reservoir (1939) fills a narrow valley in the Sabine hills between Rieti and Rome. The flooded village of Paganico is partially visible at low water — walls and church tower emerging from the lake. The deep sinuous lake with forested hills on both sides is one of the most scenic in Lazio. Kingfisher, great crested grebe and common tern breed here. Dogs welcome on the forest tracks.
