Lago del Predil, Cave del Predil

Friuli-Venezia Giulia

Lago del Predil (940 m) above Cave del Predil near the Austrian border is a turquoise-green alpine lake whose vivid colour comes from dissolved minerals from the old silver and zinc mine (closed 1991 — one of the last working mines in Italy). The lake circuit is easy. The mine infrastructure is being converted into a museum. Chamois on the surrounding ridges. The Austrian border is 2 km away.
