Lago d'Arpy, Morgex

Aosta Valley

Lago d'Arpy sits on a high alpine shelf above Morgex with a classic western-Alps view: larch forest, flowery meadows and Mont Blanc's north face in the background. The lake is shallow enough that cattle wade in it in July. A 1-hour ascent from the road at La Clusaz. Near-complete solitude even in August.
