Lago di Ceresole Reale, Gran Paradiso

Lago di Ceresole Reale (1,620 m) on the Piedmont side of Gran Paradiso National Park is the main reservoir of the valley. Ibex regularly descend to the dam and surrounding meadows in July–August — groups of 20–30 are routine. The lake circuit passes through larch and stone pine forest. The Nivolet pass above (2,612 m) is the finest ibex-watching site in all the Alps. Dogs allowed in the Piedmont park zone.
