Lago Biviere di Cesarò

One of the few natural lakes in Sicily, this shallow basin sits at over 1,200 metres in the heart of the Nebrodi park, fed by rain and snowmelt rather than any permanent stream. Its reed-fringed margins are an important stopover for herons and migratory waterfowl, and the surrounding beech woods and open pasture support the Nebrodi's population of semi-wild black pigs and horses. The lake can shrink considerably by late summer in dry years.
