Lago Alto del Flumendosa
Sardinia
Sitting at over 700 metres in the granite highlands of central Sardinia, this reservoir supplies much of the island's hydroelectric power and drinking water, its shoreline largely undeveloped and fringed by mature holm oak woodland. The surrounding Sarcidano plateau carries scattered nuraghi and other prehistoric remains among the cork oak groves. Mouflon and golden eagles both frequent the wilder hills to the lake's south.
