High in the Capanne di Marcarolo park, the Gorzente was dammed in the late 1800s to supply Genova. A forest circuit links the three lakes across heath and beechwood, with the serpentine "barren" landscape of Marcarolo around and, from the ridges, a glimpse of the sea.
