Laghetti di Marinello, Tindari
Sicily
The Laghetti di Marinello are a series of shifting sand-bar lagoons south of the Tindari promontory on the Tyrrhenian coast of Sicily's mainland neighbour. The lagoons form and dissolve with each winter storm, creating turquoise shallow pools separated by white sand bars. Flamingos regularly pause here in March. The Tindari sanctuary above (Greek theatre + Byzantine basilica) dominates the cliff.
