Monti della Laga — Cascate di Volpara
Abruzzo
The Monti della Laga are a sandstone massif (unusual among Apennine limestone peaks) covered almost entirely in old-growth beech forest. Dozens of small waterfalls feed the Tronto river. The Cascate di Volpara are the most accessible but the whole range is a wilderness of water, beech and silence that few visit.
