Lac Loson is the highest named lake in Gran Paradiso National Park at 2,971 m — reached by a full day route from Cogne via the Col Lauson (3,296 m). The col is the highest point on the Alta Via 2 route. The lake sits in a glacially polished basin surrounded by permanent snow. Ptarmigan nest here; golden eagles hunt the surrounding ridges. Clear in only 8–10 weeks per year.
