Isola di San Pietro — Carloforte

Carloforte on Isola di San Pietro was colonised in 1738 by Ligurian coral fishermen from Tabarka in Tunisia — they still speak a form of 18th-century Genovese (Tabarchino). The island has pink granite headlands, clear sea and the ruins of a traditional mattanza tuna trap (now a museum). Eleonora's falcons breed here in summer.
