Isola di Vulcano — Gran Cratere Walk

Vulcano island in the Aeolian archipelago gave its name to the word 'volcano'. The Gran Cratere walk (386 m, 2.5 km) reaches active fumaroles emitting sulfurous steam — the rim overlooks the crater floor where fumaroles are visible below. The island has hot spring mud pools and black sand beaches. Dogs allowed on the approach trail. The view from the rim includes the entire Aeolian island chain.
