The Parco Lombardo della Valle del Ticino south of Vigevano is the oldest nature park in Italy (established 1974). The Ticino here is braided and largely unembankmented — the wildest section of the river. Black stork breeds in the riparian forest (4–5 pairs). Kingfisher inhabits every pool. Wild boar roam the Bosco Siro Negri (primeval oak forest patch). 1 hour from Milan Centrale by regional train.
