Isola Comacina, Lago di Como
Lombardy
The Isola Comacina is the only island on Lake Como — a small wooded island with Byzantine church ruins. The island was cursed by the Bishop of Como in 1169 (for siding with Milan) and was abandoned for 600 years. A Michelin-starred restaurant has operated here since 1947 with the same menu each day. Dogs are allowed on the island circuit; the ferry from Ossuccio operates year-round.
