Monte Epomeo (789 m) is the summit of Ischia — a trachyte volcanic dome rising from the island. The rock is green-grey trachyte unique to Ischia. The summit is reached by mule track from Fontana (1.5 hours). The view takes in Vesuvius, Capri, the Flegrei fields, Procida and the Amalfi coast simultaneously. The hermit chapel carved into the rock at the summit is 15th century.
