Is Arutas — Spiaggia di Quarzo, Sinis
Sardinia
Is Arutas on the Sinis peninsula near Oristano has white quartz pebbles instead of sand — the beach feels and looks like someone emptied a bag of rice. It is one of the rarest beach types in Italy. The Sinis peninsula behind is a nature reserve with the ancient Nuragic city of Tharros (8th century BC). Flamingo and osprey are regular in the adjacent Stagno di Cabras lagoon.
