Grottole — Borgo e Calanchi

Grottole shares the same eroded clay-hill landscape as its better-known neighbour Craco, but with only a fraction of the visitors — much of the old town itself is half-abandoned. Paths from the village edge drop into the surrounding calanchi, ribbed grey badlands stretching toward the Basento river.
