Grotte di Zungri
Calabria
This extensive complex of over a hundred interconnected cave dwellings was carved into soft sandstone, likely inhabited from the medieval period through the early twentieth century by farming communities. The multi-level layout, with internal staircases and niches for storage, gives real insight into how such troglodyte communities organised daily life. Wide views open over the Poro plateau's olive groves from the upper terraces.
