The Grotte di Frasassi were discovered in 1971 when a caving team broke through into the Sala della Ancona — a cavern 240 m tall and 180 m wide, one of the largest in the world. The guided tour covers 1.5 km of illuminated passages with extraordinary formations over millions of years.
