Grotte del Caglieron, Fregona

Veneto

The Caglieron stream has cut a narrow ravine through soft sandstone and hard conglomerate, and for centuries people enlarged the caves to quarry building stone. Metal-and-timber walkways now run right through it, past falls, dripping arches and the old quarry chambers, in the hills below the Cansiglio.
