Grotta di Rio Martino
Piedmont
Near Crissolo, at the foot of Monviso, the Rio Martino stream emerges explosively from a cave mouth partway up a limestone cliff, falling in a long cascade to the valley floor. Speleologists have mapped several kilometres of passages beyond the entrance chamber, though the show cave itself only opened for guided visits. The approach trail winds through a narrow gorge thick with maidenhair fern and dripping moss.
