The Grotta Gigante holds the Guinness record as the world's largest tourist cave by volume — a single chamber 107 m tall, 280 m long and 120 m wide, with stalagmites exceeding 12 m. The cave is equipped with seismographs that have recorded earthquakes from across the planet. It lies on the Carso plateau 15 km from Trieste, accessible by tram. Dogs are welcomed in the park surrounding the cave entrance.
