Grotta di Pertosa-Auletta, Basilicata
Basilicata
The Grotta di Pertosa-Auletta in the Tanagro valley is unique in Italy: an underground river navigable by boat for the first 250 m. The cave was inhabited in the Bronze Age — pile-dwelling structures have been found in the underground lake. The cave system extends 3 km. Stalactites, stalagmites and cave formations are exceptional. Dogs welcome outside; not inside.
