The Grotta di Carburangeli above Nicotera on the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria has Palaeolithic engravings and ochre paintings — one of the few prehistoric art sites in Calabria. The cave overlooks the Tyrrhenian and the Aeolian Islands. Access is by a path from the road above. The surrounding landscape has ancient olive groves producing the Calabria DOP oil.
