Grotta del Mezzogiorno
Marche
Part of the wider Frasassi karst system near Genga, this passage takes its name (mezzogiorno, 'midday') from a natural opening that lets a beam of sunlight reach the cave floor around noon on certain days. It sees far fewer visitors than the main show cave, typically accessed on specialist caving excursions. Formations here remain less polished and more textured than the well-trodden tourist route.
