Gravina di Petruscio

Puglia

Less visited than Massafra's main ravine, this canyon holds a small rupestrian church whose faded but still legible Byzantine frescoes survive from a community of monks who settled here centuries ago. The gorge itself is narrow and shaded, threading through typical Murgia scrubland of wild olive and holm oak.
