Gravina di Laterza
Puglia
Stretching for kilometres and plunging up to 200 metres deep in places, this gravina rivals canyons found in far larger mountain ranges, despite sitting in otherwise gently rolling farmland. Cave dwellings carved by shepherds and hermit monks dot its walls, and griffon vultures have been reintroduced to nest on the cliffs.
