Gravina di Gravina in Puglia

The Gravina di Puglia gorge near Altamura is cut 70 m deep by the Gravina torrent through soft calcarenite. Cave churches (rupestrian) are carved into both walls. The griffon vulture colony (12+ pairs) nests on the gorge cliffs — one of the largest colonies in southern Italy outside the Gargano. The medieval bridge spanning the gorge is a Baroque masterpiece. Peregrine also nests here.
