Vallone di Ollomont

The Val d'Ollomont, a narrow side valley running toward the Swiss border, climbs to open pasture with an increasingly dramatic view of the Grand Combin's glaciated flanks, the fourth-highest massif in the Alps outside the main Mont Blanc-Monte Rosa chain. Old mining tracks from a defunct talc quarry lace the lower slopes, now used mainly by walkers and grazing cattle. Bearded vultures and golden eagles are both regularly sighted riding the thermals off the glacier faces.
