This is the largest state-owned forest in the western Alps, a dense stand of Scots pine, larch, and spruce climbing the flank of the Val di Susa near the French border. Napoleonic-era military roads, built to move troops toward the Monginevro pass, now serve as some of the park's main hiking routes. An arboretum near the entrance documents the forest's slow recovery from centuries of logging and grazing.
