Gole del Sagittario
Abruzzo
The Sagittario river squeezes through this narrow limestone canyon on its way toward Lago di Scanno, and the disused 19th-century road that once carried traffic through it is now a walking trail tunnelling through the rock in places. Golden eagles nest on the surrounding crags, and wild orchids bloom on the slopes each spring.
