Gole del Nera, Valnerina
Umbria
The Gole del Nera in the Valnerina below Cerreto di Spoleto are a series of limestone gorges — the Nera river has otter (confirmed), dipper and kingfisher. The gorge walls have abandoned cliff villages (Vallo di Nera, Scheggino) that survived medieval earthquakes. The Nera is the cleanest river in central Italy. The gorge path follows the old mule track. Dogs off-leash.
