Gola di Su Gorropu from East, Orgosolo
Sardinia
The Gola di Su Gorropu is the deepest canyon in Europe outside the Grand Canyon group — 500 m sheer limestone walls. The eastern approach from the Barbagia side crosses the Supramonte holm oak plateau before descending into the canyon mouth. The canyon narrows to less than 4 m wide in sections; boulders fill the floor. Barbary sheep (mouflon) are visible on the walls.
