Gola di Balza Tagliata
Umbria
This gorge cuts abruptly through the limestone above Preci, a Valnerina village once famous across Europe for its school of surgeons. Ruins of a small castle perch above the cleft, guarding what was once a strategic mountain crossing. The trail narrows considerably in places, following the gorge rim through scrubby oak woodland.
