Gola della Rossa & Genga
Marche
The Gola della Rossa (Red Gorge) is a spectacular limestone canyon near Genga in the Marche Apennines. The walls hold Renaissance hermitages cut into the rock — the most elaborate is the Eremo di Fonte Avellana (1000 AD), where Dante stayed. Griffon vultures were reintroduced and now soar above the canyon regularly.
