Gilfschlucht (Gola del Gilf)

Overshadowed by Merano's famous Tappeiner promenade, this steep gorge a little further out of town carries a mountain stream through narrow rock walls draped in ferns and moss, crossed by a series of catwalks and bridges. It's a shaded, cool escape on hot Val Venosta days, with the trail eventually opening onto sunny terraced hillsides above the town.
