Giara di Gesturi Wild Ponies
Sardinia
The Giara di Gesturi is a flat basalt plateau rising 500 m above the Campidano plain, home to the only wild free-ranging horse population in Europe outside the Camargue — the Cavallini della Giara, a miniature Sardinian pony. The plateau has seasonal ponds (paulis) where the ponies drink; pink flamingos and stilts are also resident.
