The Ghiacciaio dei Forni in the Valfurva above Santa Caterina Valfurva is the largest valley glacier in the Italian Alps — 3 km wide and 9 km long, descending from the Ortler Group. The glacier has retreated 2 km since 1900. The approach from Santa Caterina passes through larch-arolla pine. Ibex on the moraines. Ptarmigan on the snowfields. Eagle owl in the valley. Dogs off-leash below the glacier.
