Forte Hensel, Tarvisio

Forte Hensel (1,196 m) above Tarvisio is an Austro-Hungarian WWI fortress with intact underground galleries and gun emplacements. The fortress is at the triple border between Italy, Austria and Slovenia. The walk through the forest gives views of the Mangart, Julian Alps and the Raibl lake. The surrounding 'Bosco degli Elfi' forest is old Norway spruce with abundant roe deer.
