Camaldoli — Foresta Casentinese Walk

The forest of Camaldoli above Poppi in the Casentino has been managed by the Camaldolese monks since 1012 AD — one of the oldest continuously managed forests in Europe. The monks planted silver fir and beech following rules established by St Romuald (founder of the order). The hermitage forest at 1,100 m is old-growth. Wolf tracks are found regularly near the hermitage. Dogs welcome on the forest walks.
