The Valle Umbra floodplain between Assisi and Spoleto has ancient olive groves (some trees 1,000+ years old), riverine forest along the Clitunno and Topino rivers, and the sacred Fonti del Clitunno — a spring so beautiful Virgil and Byron both wrote about it. Kingfisher on every river bend. The medieval landscape between the two Franciscan cities is unchanged since the 13th century.
