The Foresta di Collemeluccio near Pescopennataro is a UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve protecting one of the last old-growth black pine (Pinus nigra) forests in the southern Apennines — trees over 400 years old. The forest is one of the few places in Molise with confirmed wolf breeding. Goshawk and sparrowhawk breed in the canopy. The air is extraordinarily clean. Dogs off-leash.
