Foresta delle Serre

Calabria

The Serre massif's forests are notably cooler and wetter than much of Calabria, supporting one of the region's best remaining stands of silver fir alongside beech and chestnut. The Carthusian monastery of Serra San Bruno, founded in the eleventh century, sits at the forest's edge and gives the area its name. Numerous small streams and springs cut through the woodland, feeding the Ancinale river basin below.
