Riserva Naturale Foce dell'Isonzo
Friuli-Venezia Giulia
Where the Isonzo river reaches the Adriatic near Grado, its delta spreads into reed marsh, lagoon and wet grassland protected as a WWF-managed reserve. It's one of the best birdwatching sites on the northern Adriatic — spoonbills, herons and large numbers of migrating waders pass through, with hides positioned along the flat paths. The reserve sits at the meeting point of Alpine river water and Mediterranean lagoon.
