Foce dell'Isonzo — Riserva Marina
Friuli-Venezia Giulia
The Foce dell'Isonzo is where WWI's most contested river meets the Adriatic. The brackish lagoons and reedbeds at the mouth are a critical migration bottleneck for passerines, waders and raptors crossing the Adriatic. Over 300 species recorded; Audouin's gull, little crake and aquatic warbler are among the rarities. The beach to the south is one of the least-developed on the northern Adriatic.
