The Fiume Tirino between Capestrano and Bussi is frequently cited as the clearest river in Italy — it emerges from the Gran Sasso limestone karst at a constant 6°C and flows for 20 km through pristine gravel-bedded channels. The valley has ancient water mills still operating, watercress meadows, and the famous Capestrano Warrior (Iron Age statue found here in 1934). Brown trout are abundant.
