Etna — Crateri Silvestri, Nicolosi

The Crateri Silvestri (1,892 Eruption, 1,900 m) on the south slope of Etna are the most accessible craters on Europe's largest volcano — a short walk from the cable car and chairlift on the Nicolosi road. Dogs on leash are allowed. Walking inside the Silvestri crater (50 m deep) is possible. The lava landscape is black and other-worldly; birch trees colonise the older lava flows. Etna's summit smoke is visible from within.
