Eremo di Monte Corona

Umbria

Founded in the 11th century, the Eremo di Monte Corona sits in dense oak and hornbeam woodland above the Tiber valley near Umbertide, its individual hermit cells scattered through the trees around the central church. The approach walk is quiet and shaded, popular with locals more for the forest than the monastery itself. A small resident community still keeps the eremitic tradition alive.
