Eremo delle Carceri, Monte Subasio

The "Carceri" (retreats) cling to the Fosso delle Carceri gorge where Francis and his friars withdrew to pray. A small medieval friary is built over the original caves, surrounded by a monumental holm-oak wood with marked paths climbing on to the open pastures of Monte Subasio.
